Stash Reduction Sale – Bring your extra yarns, books, tools and equipment, and handmade gifts to donate and sell for the benefit of the guild. Mark each item with the price you think is appropriate. We haven't done this in a long time, so we're sure that everyone has saved up lots of good stuff to donate!

Also for sale at bargain prices will be yarns from the estate of former member, Judy Moore. Silk City chenille, Henry's Attic wool, loopy wool skeins, skeins of beautiful, fine, orange and goldenrod wool, and more. Be sure to bring your checkbook, and bring your friends!

Potluck – Members and guests are asked to bring a food item to share. The guild will provide utensils, plates, beverages and tablecloths. Don't plan to reheat food in the kitchen, but you may bring a crockpot and plug it in if you wish.

Guild Meeting - speaker is Lany Eila

Lany Eila will be speaking about her exquisite tapestry works using neutral colors and her discovery of the bones of tapestry through the reduction of color in search of form. Her works revolve from photo realism through to abstractions that deal with universal cycles of thoughts and events. Lany's tapestries are important because of their visual impact, precision as
well as content.

Toadlena Trading Post Trip

The guild members who visited Toadlena Trading post all agree it was a trip well worth taking! The beautiful scenery and wonderful dose of culture was surpassed only by the gracious hospitality of our hosts Mark and Linda.

October 4 meeting

Remember our meeting speaker will be Joyce Begay-Foss and she will give a program on her new book “Spider Woman’s Gift”.  She gave this talk at MIAC this summer to a general audience.  Her concentration was on Navajo blankets.  9:30 social hour, 10:00 meeting and ca. 10:30 Tuesday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Enzmann-Forneris Workshop in October

Connie Enzmann-Forneris weaves beautiful rugs which I have admired for many years. She's also a very good teacher and for several years has been teaching classes at Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center in the fall. This year I have signed up for her block weave/weft-faced wool rug class and I need some fellow students so that the class will be a go! It will be held October 7-9 (Fri-Sun) and the product will be a table runner. Her website is www.fiberdesigns.com. The EVFAC website for more information is www.evfac.org/classes.

It occurred to me that rather than present a report on IWC, our members would much rather see samples from the classes people took.  So, if it is not too much to ask, could the people who attended IWC bring things they made in class, or things done later as a result of class?  I am willing to bring my failed samples…and hopefully Helen will bring the samples which worked from Barbara Herbster’s class.-Su

Guild Potluk Picnic

Thanks to the hospitality of Theresa Holmes, members will be able to start the guild season with our now traditional potluck picnic in a new setting. It will be a chance to socialize, take care of some business, meet new friends, greet old friends, and meet the llamas.

It's been awhile, but I just spent an inspirational weekend at IWC, the InterMountain Weaver's Conference in Durango. Besides that the college is way up high, and the dorm overlooks the city, and looks across at the mountains it is just plain beautiful there. There were 170 attendees, and the class offerings were wonderful

Yoshiko Wada, whose class Nancy Ullman took, gave a very interesting talk on the trends in Japanese textiles, along with a fashion show on Friday night. Jason Collingwood was teaching a rug weaving class which at least one member of our guild took, Nadine Sanders was teaching Theo Moorman, and I think Alene took that, Helen Finney and I were in Barbara Herbster's differential shrinkage class, with a bunch of fun people, I saw Melodie and met her friend from Abiqui but I don't know what class they took. Evelyn and Joni might have been taking Rebecca's color blending class and Ann was either in Judy Dominic's mudcloth dying class, or the other manipulating fabric class. I looked in on Sharon Alderman's class and everyone was weaving clear crisp stripes right up to the end of Sunday.

The only disappointment was the food...and my car battery! But everyone should think seriously about attending the summer after next. If I can just figure out how, I will post pictures of my samples.-Su
